Raised beds have become trendy. Most trends are passing and not necessarily helpful but this is one that was beneficial prior to the trend and in our opinion will remain

  • Benefits

    • Small yards

    • Places with poor soil conditions

    • Helps with drainage

    • Places with no soil such as a backyard with concrete or patio

    • Those that like square foot gardening

    • Overall looks cleaner

    • Easier pest control

  • Disadvantages

    • Higher cost

    • Need to bring in soil. This can be ongoing over time

    • Can limit root length

  • Construction

    • You can make it yourself or you can purchase a kit.

    • Kits save you time and can also be rearranged or added to in the future.

    • Depending how tall or how much soil you have you can add branches at the bottom. This will reduce the amount of soil needed. Saving costs

    • Fill with soil. We used triple mix.

    • Final layer is mulch
